Details About Tsavorite Gemstone 2022

Tsavorite stones and other gems

Tsavorite, or tsavorite gemstones, falls under various garnets group species grossular which is substantially a calcium-aluminum garnet. Its formula is Ca3Al2Si3O12, and it possesses amounts of vanadium or chromium, which either gives it a fantastic green color.

Tsavorite was discovered in 1967 by a geologist called Campbell R. Bridges in the mountains of east Lemshuko village. The geologist believed that the deposit could be extending further into Kenya; he was right in 1971 when he successfully found green grossular in the Tsavo areas of Kenya.

In 1974, Tiffany and Company prepared a launch to begin a campaign of marketing the gem, and it was worldwide within a short period. Tiffany and Co. suggested a tsavorite name regarding East Tsavo National Park in Kenya.

Besides East Africa, several deposits have been mined in Madagascar, Pakistan, and Antarctica. The gem has many inclusions that can be seen by the naked eye and with a microscope.

Tsavorite's hardness is 7-7.5 on the Mohs scale, and this means that it needs some extra care when put on your wedding ring. When hit or met by a relatively more potent force, it can chip or crack.

The green grossular is a birthstone for January, and it is celebrated as the 25th anniversary stone.

Synthetic Tsavorite

They say everything is possible, but I guess that phrase doesn't work on synthesizing tsavorite, or perhaps the time hasn't come yet for someone to be honored for being the first person to create artificial tsavorites.

No one has created an artificial tsavorite, but some imitations are being sold around, such as green glass.

How do I know if my tsavorite is real?

Firstly, look for inclusions. Use a microscope to look for inclusions like natural impurities or needles during the stone's formation. If there are some, then it is a genuine stone. If not, then think twice since tsavorite has no synthetic versions; this makes inspecting its naturalness pretty easy.

Is tsavorite a good investment?

YES. Tsavorite is an excellent investment since its prices are just hiking up rather than falling. It makes a perfect opportunity to make some good profit since the stone is more valuable than many precious and non-precious gems. The stone is also among the rarest gems in the gems market, so if you get the chance to invest in them it will for sure be a good investment and a wise decision at the same time.

Facts about tsavorites stone

It is the rarest of all garnets. Due to tsavorites scarcity, since only a handful of countries have tsavorite deposits, the stone is rare. Still, the finest and most valuable tsavorites are mined in Kenya, Tsavo area.

Tsavorite stone is the most expensive of green gems. The biggest ever mined was 325.14 carats. You heard that right; this green grossular garnet is very expensive since it abundantly occurs in smaller sizeable crystals. More so, even relatively smaller chunks of tsavorite are precious.

The world hasn't wrapped its head around synthetizing tsavorite. The crystal has complicated chemical and physical properties that make it hard for synthesizers to create a counterfeit.

Tsavorite can't be treated or enhanced. This factor makes many fall in love with the stone, and perhaps it is among the reasons why tsavorite prices are so high.

Where is tsavorite mined in Kenya?

It is clear that the best quality tsavorite comes from Kenya around the great Tsavo National Park, but two primary mines supply the world with these precious treasures.

Kuruhanze mine is the typical mine that stretches from Kasigau, a small village you have to pass by to get motorbike transport from the natives who know the place well. Or, if you have your transportation, you still need to pass for a guide or some essential things since it is the last town you will spot before bumping into wildlife such as giraffes, rhinos, cheetah, lions, elephants, and so on.

Mkuki mine - Mkuki mine is one of the oldest ones, but it is distant from Voi town, and the road is unsafe due to wandering carnivores. But, that doesn't stop miners as they have developed ways of living and working in such areas. Its route is through Mwatate, where there are native transporters and guides to help you reach the destination. There are some other mines, but these are the authorized ones with some miners' protection and laws.

What is tsavorite good at?

Tsavorite stone supports growth within the body by renewing emotional trauma and renovating cellular growth within the body. The stone heals the heart chakra by increasing zest and brio within a person.

Is tsavorite a precious stone?

Tsavorite stone might not be officially regarded as a precious stone, but it is among the most expensive stones that sometimes beats precious stones like emerald and sometimes sapphire. Besides that, it is one of the rarest stones, which further makes its demand high hence beating most of the pr3ecious stones.

Is tsavorite expensive than emerald?

Looking at rarity, refractive index, hardness, etc., a good cut, high-quality tsavorite is more expensive than an emerald stone.

How much is tsavorite worth?

Tsavorite's quality is determined using the 4C'S, and a good quality one can go as high as $8000 per carat and even more than that. Basically, the more high quality a tsavolite really is the more its price hikes up. And by this I mean if it the meets the qualities such as having less inclusions, less cracks, good tone and hue plus having a great saturation as the article  The Definitive Tsavorite Buying Guide written by Antony Z (2019) says. Such a gem is undoubtedly very expensive.

How to care for your tsavorite

Use warm water, rinse and dry it properly using a clean cloth, be sure to never use any kind of harsh chemicals, steam as well as ultrasonic cleaners. Some harsh chemicals react with some gemstones and it is the last thing you would want to see happenning to your gem. Some chemicals bleach gems, some can dissolve them which posses major harm to your stone, etc.
